TVAS Special Feature - LPG Lightning Photography Day

I am also a member of the Cottesmore Aviation Group and they often send me emails detailing trips available to members. In mid April they let me know of a photographers day organised by the Lightning Preservation Group based at Bruntingthorpe Airfield. As I am a keen aviation snapper I immediately went to the website (http://www.lightnings.org.uk) to get the details. After sussing out the when's where's and how much of it all, I called good friend and fellow TVAS member Brian Kiddy to see if he was as interested as I was, we decided that it looked like a very good value for money trip. We were joined on the day by my son and TVAS member Adam Barber. On the day the weather was unusually clement and the journey down the M1 very free of traffic, so within an hour we had arrived at the airfield. The gate staff politely directed us to the LPG QRA hangars where the two aircraft were parked,they are in immaculate condition and are better polished than the average boy racer's Subaru. After an hour spent photographing them from every concievable angle we did the rounds of all the other aircraft on-site. Several highlights include; Bucaneer, Comet, Victor, Hunter and Super Guppy types.This turned out to be a fantastic day and it definately did not break the bank with a total of £11 each including fuel. The airfield is holding another open day on May 25th and this time the jets will be conducting runs down the 2 mile runway, if the weather is as good it will be a great day.
